terrible, terrible . . .

Any good bloggers have tips for this bad blogger?  I'm just experiencing some deja vu from the college years...

...and the high school years, for that matter.  I had an English teacher who had us keep a "Didion Notebook" - which was a journal named after Joan Didion.  The idea was that if we just got used to writing something, anything, consistently - we'd become better writers.

In college at RWC, I also had a great teacher (one famous EB) who required journal-writing in almost all of her classes.  And almost every time I'd do the same thing.  Forget (or neglect) to journal most days, and then on the night before turn-in day, write about 10-12 entries all at once (not back-dating of course, because that would be...um...wrong).

So here I am, a 'missionary blogger', and the WORLD is reading how 'tormos' I am (that's a Ukrainian/Russian slang word that literally means--to put on the brakes; I can think of an English equivalent, but it's not very polite :)

Back-dating, even if I wanted to, doesn't work here.

What's strange is that I actually enjoy writing.  I considered a few career options (journalism, academic work, etc) that would entail large amounts of writing.  As with most things, I had some desire to be framed in - forced into consistency.  A blog is nice, but it doesn't make me do anything.

Okay, I think that's enough 'processing' for one (or two) entries.  I'll come up with something soon :)

A research blog

Hello again - wow, I'm writing twice in one day - I think that's record-breaking!

I just created a new blog on blogger called "grappling with the questions"

It's an attempt to get my research project on attitudes toward religion in Ukraine going in a more productive direction.  By exposing some thoughts in process to whomever is kind enough to read the blog - I might keep up with it better, and the end result might have more weight.  One can hope! :)

Check it out!

So I made a myspace today

And suddenly I picture one of my senior-year apartment-mates, Jodie the highly inflecting soprano, who would always start her sentences with "so..."   I think this was to give you the impression that you had already been talking about something, which was convenient for her, since she was usually interrupting!  :)

Well, interrupting or not (and if I am, it's really all your fault for clicking) I'm going to share a little bit about the 'myspace' experience.  First, it's not typepad.  Typepad is so distinguished looking.  Well, at least it can be if you want it to be.  The contents aren't necessarily any different.  I guess content has everything to do with the person writing, what they've decided to accomplish with their blog, etc.  ANYWAY...MySpace is kind of like a techie way of giving a 'Shout Out!' to all your friends and letting them do it back, and letting the whole world read it if they want to.  Kinda fun.  And probably necessary to give us back a little feel of community - that feeling we lose because we are spending too much time sitting in front of screens.

Which is what I've been doing today, so I'd better go.

Thanks for reading.
